How it Works

The Future of Eye Care Is Here

The Kiosks are operated by a GlobeChek™ Technician who guides the user through the screening process. All testing is performed without dilation (No drops) and without touching the eye. These tests are all performed using the same sophisticated high-quality instrumentation found in an eye doctor’s office.

The screening exam detects glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and cataracts, the four leading causes of blindness in the US, as well as a host of other eye and systemic diseases (Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Carotid Artery Disease, etc.)

Testing at the Kiosk starts with a visual acuity check. Next, an auto-refraction is performed which produces and approximate eyeglass prescription. Eye pressure, a high-definition photo of both the external eye and the retina (the light sensitive nerve layer in the back of the eye) is then taken. An OCT, an essential part of any thorough eye exam, is then performed to evaluate the optic nerve and macula for signs of glaucoma and macular degeneration. The cornea (clear window of the eye) is then checked for thickness. The angle (the “drain” of the eye) is then assessed looking for any signs of an impending acute attack of vision threatening high pressure of the eye. Finally, the degree of cloudiness of the lens (cataract) is assessed. The entire process takes about 8 minutes.

Every user will have his/her tests reviewed by a certified GlobeChek™ Doctor. A report is sent to the user with appropriate diagnosis and recommendations for follow up care. A telemedicine consult is available to review the findings. Those users in need of follow up care will be referred to a local GlobeChek™ Doctor.
